Love Yves
Ok, you may not find yourself in Paris everyday but if by chance
you do, the Yves Saint Laurent Retrospective at the Petit Palais
Museum, is a must-see, (open until the end of August.)
Exhibitions like this can sometimes disappoint; giving you a taster
but not enough to really sink your teeth into. However, room
after room is dedicated to the designer; his life, inspirations and
creations (over 300 of them, both couture and prêt-a-porter). The
culmination, an impressive floor to ceiling wall of every variation
of his 'le smoking' tuxedo, impressively highlights Yves Saint
Laurent's mercurial design. By reworking classic masculine
tailoring and work-wear he created clean lines that contrasted with
the female shape, only to flatter it more. And we're still wearing
them today.
