"Before marriage, a girl has to make love to a man to hold him. After marriage, she has to hold him to make love to him." - Marilyn Monroe
Marilyn met playwright Arthur Miller in Hollywood in 1950, and later in New York when reintroduced by friends. The couple married 29 June 1956 and shortly after left for London where Marilyn shot The Prince and the Showgirl. When Marilyn suffered a miscarriage in 1957, it was Miller who encouraged her to return to Hollywood to work. Miller reportedly wrote Marilyn's role in his screenplay for The Misfits (1961) as a Valentine's Day gift, but the couple divorced in Mexico in January 1961.
