The original 'All Star' trainer was designed by Marquis Mills Converse in 1908 and became popular in the US for an association with fashionable sport basketball. Their popularity remained, through World War 2 in a practical capacity and as a fashion statement in the 50s and 60s. In 1996 the All Star shoe was modified to the trainers we know today, and now Converse sell approximately 100 million pairs worldwide per year.
