Mason Pearson was founded in 1860 by Mason Pearson, an engineer from North England. Each hairbrush was made by hand, until he developed a brush boring machine in 1885 which sped up the whole process. His wife took over the company following his death in 1905 and created the now iconic rubber cushion on the brush.
