This is my mother in Sweden in 1967, around the time she wed my father in Finland, without a single friend or family member in a strange country. Quite bold for a 22-year-old from America's sleepy Midwest! "Mom" still has the most radiant, beautiful face that entices people in. Now in her 60s, she's a writer and global nomad, going between London and the US with ease, meeting fascinating friends of all ages - many who are now my own friends. She's taught me by example: To take care of my skin, to dress in what suits me, to love books, to enjoy food, and to value experiences over possessions (but to treasure what I do have). She's taught me to be curious and independent, loving and kind, as well as to take joy in the every day. If she has a motto, it's "Everything happens for a reason"... and she's usually right. She's magic to me and all those she meets. Happy Mother's Day Mumsie!
