Move over Lady Gaga's meat dress, a new textile is in town... red wine.
Eliminating the panic of your favourite tipple tipping onto your dress, scientists have unveiled a womenswear collection fashioned from red wine, after bacteria was added to the drink to create a cotton-like substance. A team from the University of Western Australia in collaboration with contemporary artist Donna Franklin have made dresses (pictured, above), t-shirts and swimwear from the fabric, which grows itself and forms without a single stitch.
Lead researcher Gary Cass, who helped create the range of believes fermented fashion could one day become mainstream. We're not so sure, but we'd definitely invest in a grape-grown homewares range. Wine tea towels? Why not?
