LocationJust outside London, in the countryside of Hertfordshire.
Why goAside from the incredible surroundings and beauty of the building itself, there are plenty of activities from golf to horse riding (that is, if you can tear yourselves away from the spa) to found at this five-star hotel.
What's the storyThe decor throughout the hotel is impressive - from modern to period in design - with beautiful furniture (much of it original) and imaginative rooms and bars all boasting their own unique personality. Queen Victoria used to have regular getaways at The Grove. We can totally see why.
The roomArt is a big feature in every one of the 191 bedrooms and 26 suites, and the rooms overlook the delightful grounds complete with fountains, ponds and flower arbours.
Eating and drinkingWe ate at Colette's, one of the four restaurants at The Grove, and enjoyed (at least seven courses) of the tasting menu overlooking the countryside that was quite spectacular on both counts. With accompanying wine tasting to match each course (worth splashing out for) we experienced divine food from 'Hand Dived Scottish Scallops, Peanut, Radish, Lime' to 'Tartar of Scottish Beef Fillet, English Mustard, Nasturtium, Summer Truffles' and found it to be very memorable.
Out and aboutThere really is no need to leave…
PackA good book to read by the pool and something fabulous to slip into over dinner.
